Slots Still Available for the NDAA Trial Advocacy I Course

The National District Attorneys Association has some slots remaining for the July 12-16 Trial Advocacy I course at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, SC. The course is designed for prosecutors with 1-3 years experience in the prosecutor office and includes faculty presentations and demonstrations, discussion workshops, and videotaped trial advocacy exercises in our courtrooms.

NDAA will pay up to $550.00 for travel expenses and five nights lodging at the Advocacy center which includes breakfast, lunch, and two refreshment breaks. There is no tuition for the course.

DUI 5th Offense Conviction for Brooklyn Martin

In Bradley County, Tennessee, a jury convicted Glenn Benson of DUI 5th offense, Driving on a revoked license second offense and open container on April 20th. After the verdict, his appeal bond was set at $75,000 and he was remanded to jail. Congratulations to Assistant District Attorney Brooklyn Martin, who represented the people of the State of Tennessee.

    DUI/DWI Offenses - As introduced, allows general sessions court to determine whether a person charged with DUI also violated the implied consent law rather than requiring implied consent cases to be heard by court determining the DUI.

    DUI/DWI Offenses - As introduced, broadens substances that may affect central nervous system for purposes of the prohibition against driving under the influence.

    DUI/DWI Offenses - As introduced, permits arrest for DUI to toll the 10 and 20 year provision between convictions for purpose of determining a multiple offender.

NHTSA SFST Validation Studies Available

New information in the resources folder includes three NHTSA studies concerning the SFST's. The latest study from 1998 indicates that when an officer gives the full battery of tests, the determination of whether the driver is over .08% BAC is accurate 91% of the time.
